100 million iPods sold

Geek.com writes

Apple announced it has now sold 100 million iPods. The milestone gives the iPod the title of the fastest selling music player in history.

Since first offered in November 2001, the iPod has undergone many changes. More than 10 different iPod models have been sold in addition to the introduction of the iPod mini, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle. Apple also notes that the iPod has led to a very robust accessories market, which includes over 4,000 accessories.

Apple should be pounding its chest a little bit over its 100-millionth iPod sold. Who would have thought that a company selling Macs could transform itself into the music powerhouse it has become? It's no surprise companies such as Microsoft are looking to copy some of that success.
